Johan Lydrik Olsen

Johan was born on November 20th in 1852 as the youngest of seven children at Vikaskag Farm, in Froya in Sor-Trondelag. He was baptized in Sletta church  on February 20th in 1853.

His parents was Ole Pedersen Vikaskaget b. 1803 at Kloven Farm and Guru Johnsdatter Krangsaas b. 1810 at Krangsaas in Borsa.

His siblings were:

Johanna Maria b. 1834, married to Johan Bernt Isaksen Dragsnes.

Ingeborg Olina b. 1839 (possibly married at Orndal)

Ole Andreas b. 1841 d. 1912 Brooten, Stearns County, Minnesota

Carl Gunerius b. 1844 d. 1899 Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota

Odin f. 1846 b. 1927 Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota

Johan and Odin was the only children living on the Vikaskag Farm in the 1865 census. They had three cows, sixteen sheep and one pig. Later Johan lived at the farm until about 1886 when he sold Vikaskag and bought the farm Sordal in Gurvikdalen. Their father Ole died in 1863, and their mother Guru died in 1894.

Johan (my great grandfather) married Ane Kristine Pedersdatter Sneve b. may 15th 1857 at Skjonhalsen, Froya.

Ane Kristine (she used the name Kjerstine) was a daughter of Peder Andreas Ingebrigtsen Sneve b. 1827 d. 1894 and Ane Jensdatter b. 1827 d. 1891.

Johan and Kjerstine had the following children:

Gusta Oline 1880-1880.

Gustav Olaf 1881-1955 - married to Hanna Albertine A. Bjørnbæk and Othelie Nygaard. Two children.

Petra Konstanse 1883-1940 - married to Knut Eidsvaag. Three children.

Paul Leonard 1885-1953 - maried to Nikoline Ovedie Olsen.Three children.

Johan Alfred 1887-1950 - died in Brooklyn, New York. Married, one daughter died young.?

Ole 1889-1961 - married to Agnethe Charlotte Bekken. (my grandparents) Four children.

Halvdan 1891-1973 - married to Johanna Eline Haakonsdatter Skjældamsvik. Four children.

Alvhilde Charlotte 1892-1965. Three children.

Anna 1894- diede in New York, married to Carl Ostlund. One child.

Marie 1896-1965 - married to Edvard Andersen Vollum. Eight children.

John Matheus 1898-1958 - døde i Canada, married, No children.

Aslaug Gunvor 1900-1987 - married to Oskar Gustav Fredriksen Sørdal. Six children.

Julie Agnette 1900-1972 - married to Iver Julian Karlsen Strandheim. Five children.

Johan Lydrik died in 1930 and Kjerstine died in 1923.

Johanna Maria was born on May 30th 1834. She married Johan Bernt Isaksen Dragsnes b. 1826 on July 11th 1875.
They had the following children:

Johan Martin b. 1872 married Eline Martine Hansdatter Skjonhals b. 1870. They had four children.
Anna Kristine b. 1875 emigrated to the US in 1893?

Emigrants...

Three of the Vikaskag brothers emigrated to the United States of America..

Ole Andreas b. 1841:
Ole Andreas had a son with Beret Andreasdatter that worked as a farm hand at Vikaskag.
Ole Andreas jr was born in 1963.
He also had a son, Johan b. 1866, with   Olava Haftorsdatter Smaager.

I have not found Ole's emigration or immigration, but his son Johan was born in 1866in Norway, and his first daughter was born in Minneapolis in 1869.
He was married to Dortea on the voyage from Europe to the US. I have not been able to find out where in Norway Dortea originated.

Their first four children was born in Minneapolis (1869-1873).
In the 1875 census they live in New London, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota.
In the 1880, 1885 and 1900 censuses we find them in Norway Lake, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota.
Ole was the Justice of Peace in Sunburgh, Kandiyohi in 1880.
In 1905 and 1910 they are in Brooten, Stearns County, Minnesota.

Ole had totally fifteen children, but only seven grew up:

Andrew Sylvanus Wig b. 1884 d. 1951. Married Katherina Stern. Three children.
Jennie P. Wig b. 1887-  married Ole Knutson. Four  children.
Bennie Emil Wig b. 1891 d. 1952

I have no further information on Anna Gurine.

Olaf Albert moved to Wisconsin about 1917 and died in Minong, Washburn in 1932.
He was first married to Anna E. Hanson b. 1871 in Illinois, Anna died in 1906. Olaf and Anna had four children.
Olaf then married Hattie A. Semmler  b. 1887 in Germany. Hattie died in Minong, Washburn in 1972.
Olaf and Hattie had 10 children.

Emma Charlott was married to Perry L. Speed b. 1875 in Wisc.
They had one son, Cutler Bonstell Speed b. 1908 in Wisc. and died in 1959 in California.
Emma Charlott died in Los Angeles, California in 1956.

Netta Datelia was married to Johan Emil Iverson b. 1869 in Spring Grove, Minn.
They had eight children:
Della Helen b. 1897 was married to Samuel Larson b. 1896 in Wisconsin. Two children.
John Elard b. 1898 was married to Ethel Sylvina Jacobson b. 1905 in Hennepin, Minn. Two children.
Olive Adeline b. 1902 was married to Robert Johnson. She died in 1994in Los Angeles, California.

Florence Eleanor b. 1907 was married to Ivar Elias Toft b. 1899 in Norway. One son born in California.

Andrew Sylvanus was married to Katherina Stern b. 1893.
They had three children:
Sylvanus Victor b. 1913 was married to Mildred Olive Henrieta Goerndt b. 1914 in Minnesota. Four children.
Cubert John b. 1915 was married to Cornelia Mary Hoeschen b. 1917. Three children.
Dorothy Marie b. 1916 was married to Clarke M. Larson b. 1902. Three children.

Jennie P. was married to Ole Knutson b. 1882 in Iowa.
They had four children all born i North Dakota:
Jewel O. M. b. 1911 was married to Colwell.
Arlie Vernon b. 1915 was married to Marcya Nell Schrotke. Three children.
Arvie V. b. 1915 was married to Nina J. Raaum b. 1917 in ND. Three children.
Bernice I. W. b. 1925. No further information.

I have no further information on Bennie Emil.

 Carl Gunerius was born June 2nd 1844 he was baptized in Slettta Church August 18th 1844.

Carl O. Vikan age 23, and his younger brother Odin emigrated from the port of Bergen on May 11th 1868 on board the Frigate Bird, they arrived in Quebec June 23rd.

The next time I find Carl is on the steamship Hero on his way from Norway to Minneapolis May 19th 1881.

On the same ship is Anna Caroline Rossing from a neighboring farm Aunet. Anna was born in 1858.

They married in Minneapolis on June 13th 1885.

Carl died in Minneapolis in 1899.

They had four daughters:

Isabella G. Wick b. 1886 d. 1931

Clara O. Wick b. 1889 married Carl Larson b. 1893. d. 1956. Clara died in 1954 in Minneapolis.

Ida Ragna Wick b. 1890 d. 1913

Amelia R Wick b. 1894 was married to Raymond Bouchard in 1916. They had one son.

I have no further information on Isabella, Clara or Ida.

Amelia and Raymond had one son Russell James Bouchard born March 17th 1917 in Minneapolis.

Russell James was married to Laverne Bernice Thorvilson b. 1920 on November 20th 1940.

They had two daughters.

Odin was born on October 13th in 1846. He was baptized in Sletta church on November 22nd in 1846.

Odin emigrated from the port of Bergen  on May 11th 1868 on board the Frigate Bird, they arrived in Quebec on June 23rd together with his brother Carl. He was living alone in Minneapolis at the time of the 1875 census.

The next time I find Odin is on the steamship Tasso on his way from Norway to Minneapolis in 1880.

With him is Beret Andreasdatter b.  1839. They had married  on Froya  in 1877. This is the same Beret that his brother Ole Andreas had a son with in 1863. And they also brought a son Anton Ulrik b. 1877 on Froya.

They had the following children:

Anton Ulrik b. 1877 in Froya

Julia B. Wick b. 1881 in Minneapolis

Anton Ulrik was married to Mary Johanna Anderson, born in Sweden i 1879.

They had tree sons:
